Become a Knight -- You Belong Here

If you’re looking for a place where faith, friendship, and service come together, the Knights of Columbus may be exactly what your heart has been searching for.

The Knights are a worldwide family of Catholic men, 18 and older, who support one another in living out our faith with generosity, compassion, and joy.  Since 1882, we’ve been committed to caring for families, strengthening the Church, and quietly helping those who need it most.

Here at Centennial Council 6074, we are blessed to serve the parish families of St. Andrew the Apostle, St. John the Evangelist, and St. Paul the Apostle.  Our mission is simple: to be present, to be helpful, and to be a source of hope in our community.

How We Serve Together

Our council supports organizations that care for people at every stage of life -- Inner City Home, Blue Door Soup Kitchen, Elgin Street Mission, Salvation Army, the Hospice, and local food banks.  We also run programs for youth, including Coats for Kids and the Basketball Free Throw Competition, and we proudly support Neo Kids Foundation and Special Olympics.

But being a Knight isn’t only about service.  It’s also about friendship.  We enjoy family gatherings, barbeques, curling, golf, and even the occasional sausage‑making adventure.  These moments help us grow closer as brothers and as a parish family.

A Place for Everyone

We are a multicultural community, and we warmly welcome newcomers to our city and parish.  Whether you’re young or young at heart, lifelong local or new to Canada, there is a place for you here -- a place to grow, to contribute, and to belong.

Coats for Kids – Warmth That Fits Every Child

Since 2008, the Knights of Columbus in Ontario have proudly supported the Coats for Kids program, helping thousands of children stay warm through our long Canadian winters.  But here in Sudbury, our council does things a little differently — and a lot more personally.

While many councils order bulk coats from the Ontario State program, we discovered early on that the standard boxes didn’t quite match Sudbury reality.  Some coats weren’t warm enough for our northern climate, and the pre‑selected sizes didn’t always match what local kids actually needed.  Rather than let anything go to waste, we chose a more hands‑on approach.

Each year, our St. Andrew the Apostle Council #6074 meets directly with school officials, who discreetly identify children needing winter clothing and provide their exact sizes.  Then our volunteer team heads out to local stores to purchase proper winter gear for each individual child — the right size, the right warmth, and the right fit.

For younger children, we also include snow pants (because Sudbury snowbanks are not for the faint of heart).  Every child receives a warm coat, gloves, and a hat, ensuring they can walk to school, play outside, and enjoy winter with confidence.

Many newcomer families and those facing financial challenges struggle to afford quality winter clothing.  A warm coat isn’t just a comfort — it’s the difference between staying home and showing up ready to learn.  By tailoring our approach, we make sure no child is left shivering on the sidelines.

It’s inspiring to see the impact this program has right here in our community.  Through Coats for Kids, the Knights continue a long tradition of caring for children, supporting families, and strengthening the fabric of Sudbury — one warm coat at a time.

We’re grateful for everyone who supports this mission, and we welcome anyone who wishes to join us in bringing warmth, dignity, and hope to local children.

But don’t just take our word for it.  Here’s what some of our newcomers to Sudbury from India, Burma and Africa had to say:

“When we first arrived in Sudbury, we hoped to find a place where faith, friendship, and purpose came together.

At St. Andrew the Apostle, the Knights of Columbus became that place for us.  From the very first meeting, we felt welcomed, supported, and part of something meaningful.  The brotherhood, the shared mission of service, and the joy of giving back have made us feel truly at home.

It’s not just a Council -- it’s a family that lifts you up and walks with you.”
